The Tap Adjudicator Certification Program was created out of a clear and consistent need within the dance competition industry.

Through years of teaching, choreographing, and adjudicating, Nicole recognized that tap is often evaluated without a full understanding of the technique, rhythm, and musicality that define the style.

This program was built to change that.

Nicole Byfield is a professional tap dancer, educator, and adjudicator who has worked extensively with dancers and competitions across Canada.

Her experience includes:

• adjudicating at dance competitions and festivals for over 15 years
• teaching and mentoring dancers of all ages and levels
• choreographing competitive tap routines
• a faculty member for World Performers Canada
• working closely with studios and directors throughout the competition season

Over time, one pattern became clear.

Tap dancers were often receiving feedback that was:

• too general
• technically inaccurate
• or not specific enough to support improvement

At the same time, many adjudicators were doing their best without having access to structured tap-specific training.

The gap wasn’t about effort — it was about access to the right tools.
